Harold Holt was a strong positive influence on birding in Colorado. I met Harold in March of 1998 and we quickly became friends, mostly due to his amiable personality and gentlemanly nature. Harold unselfishly shared his knowledge and his interest in birds easily rubbed off on others. Although he possessed a wealth of knowledge about birds, he never let it go to his head and I greatly respected his humble attitude. Holt's book, A Birder's Guide to Colorado, is an invaluable guide to finding birds in the state and has introduced me to many wonderful places I otherwise might have never known existed. Harold died on Decmeber 22, 1998, and will be sorely missed by the birding community nationwide. The majority of the phoros of live birds on CD #2 are by Harold Holt, and the extreme and average arrival/departure dates on the range maps are based on information compiled by Holt. My only regret in knowing Harold is that I did not have the honor of meeting him sooner.
